The new range of phones from the Apple manufacturer is composed of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. What are the differences and commonalities between all these latest generation devices? Here is a comparison iPhone 11 vs 11 Pro, with all you need to know.

Differences on their design

With its new iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, Apple offers a version almost identical to the previous iPhone XR and iPhone XS. In terms of design, the two new phones are very close, since the two main surfaces are glass (both front and back) with however a small stainless steel edge for the iPhone 11 Pro against a aluminum border for the iPhone 11.

The first difference in this comparison between iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro – and this is not the least important – is that the iPhone 11 is only equipped with an LCD – unlike the iPhone 11 Pro which comes with a much more efficient OLED screen (in terms of resolution, contrast and even brightness). At present, it is almost surprising to see Apple equip its smartphones with an LCD IPS screen, a technology that is getting a bit older.

However, we must recognize that it can significantly reduce the price of the iPhone 11 – and of course, it remains a very high-end product that we will inevitably appreciate. According to rumors, the iPhone 11 could be the last phone the manufacturer has to be equipped with an LCD – after which the OLED will become the norm. Similarly, Apple has chosen to keep on all new models a notch in the front (to hide including the photo sensor).

Among other differences easily visible between the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, we can mention the colors. The iPhone 11 Pro retains the historic and premium colors of the brand – silver, sidereal gray and gold – while adding a “green night” version for this 2019 edition. For its part, the iPhone 11 classic is much more colorful, since it arrives in black, white, yellow, red, green and purple.

To continue the comparison, in terms of the size of the screens, the phones are also slightly different since the iPhone 11 Pro measures 5.8 inches diagonally against 6.1 inches for the iPhone 11 classic. Note that the iPhone 11 Pro Max is the largest format with a 6.5 inch diagonal screen. Without going into the comparison between the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max, the second is distinguished on the size, the battery but also the price.

Among the similarities that can be mentioned in this comparison between the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Pro, and that distinguish these new phones of the previous generation, we can cite for example the logo on the back which is now centered at middle of all models. There is also the new square space in the upper left corner at the back which defines the different photo sensors on each of the devices in question.

A13 Bionic, a chip common to all

In recent years, Apple has become accustomed to presenting new chips that improve the overall performance of its iPhone (both CPU and GPU). If the A12 Bionic chip that equips the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max is still considered by all experts as one of the best on the market, the new A13 Bionic chip that equips the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max is still a notch above.

It is also this A13 Bionic chip that can offer such powerful photo sensors and a system of image processing by artificial intelligence. As you can see in the section below of this comparison between the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Pro, the photo is at the heart of the strategy of the US electronics group, and the efforts made on this niche allow Apple to to live up to the competition. Note that all these new smartphones turn on iOS 13.

Dual sensor for the iPhone 11, triple for the 11 Pro

Another important difference between the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Pro lies in the photo offer. If the iPhone 11 now has 2 photo sensors on the back of the device (against only one for the iPhone XR), it still falls short of the iPhone 11 Pro which is accompanied by a triple sensor photo on the back. So it is also a small difference in the aesthetic that can easily distinguish these two models.

Photo offer of the iPhone 11:

  • Wide-angle sensor (f / 1.8)
  • Ultra Wide Angle Sensor (f / 2.4)

Photo offer of the iPhone 11 Pro:

  • Wide-angle sensor (f / 1.8)
  • Telephoto sensor (f / 2.0)
  • Ultra Wide Angle Sensor (f / 2.4)

The main and big difference in the photo offer between the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Pro is that the latter is equipped with a telephoto sensor (f / 2.0). There are other differences that will be important to photography enthusiasts: the iPhone 11 Pro has a dual optical stabilization (against a simple on the iPhone 11), an optical zoom in the front x2 (none on the iPhone 11) and a digital zoom that climbs to x10 (against a 5x zoom on the iPhone 11).

The two phones, however, are quite similar on the selfie photo sensor located on the front of the device (TrueDepth, 12 MPx, f / 2.2). Apple took advantage of the conference to unveil new features such as the appearance of a new powerful night mode, or more options in portrait mode. Both cameras support 4K, and the ultra-wide-angle photo sensor can be used in both photos and videos.

Autonomy on the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro?

Apple remains deliberately vague about the autonomy of its phones justifying that each use is different. It is therefore necessary to read between the lines to know more about the rare indications which are given by the giant of Cupertino. In this case, we learned that the last iPhone 11 had an hour of autonomy in addition to the previous iPhone XR. As for the iPhone 11 Pro, it lasts an average of 4 hours longer than an iPhone XS.

The American firm, however, provides some valuable information in the technical characteristics of each iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max that are published on its official website. This concerns different types of use such as video playback, video streaming or audio playback. Overall, the iPhone 11 Pro has a battery greater than that of the iPhone 11 – but the difference is not so blatant as that. On the other hand, the iPhone 11 Pro Max has a higher autonomy at all levels.

  • Video playback: 17h for the iPhone 11, 18h for the 11 Pro, 20h for the 11 Pro Max
  • Video streaming: 10h for the iPhone 11, 11h for the 11 Pro, 12h for the 11 Pro Max
  • Audio playback: 65h for the iPhone 11, 65h for the 11 Pro, 80h for the 11 Pro Max

This year, Apple has decided to (finally) make an effort on the chargers included in the box at the time of purchase. Indeed, the new iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max now come with an 18W charger, which can recharge up to 50% of the battery in just 30 minutes. On the other hand, we can regret that he did not make this effort for the iPhone 11, which always comes with a 5W charger.

If the two phones of our comparison iPhone 11 vs 11 Pro are equipped with the wireless charge (it will be necessary to buy a wireless support), it is regrettable that none is able to offer a reverse charging system. While rumors announced such a feature for this new generation of iPhone 11, Apple has finally abandoned the idea – lack of satisfaction. We can not charge other devices by bringing them closer to an iPhone 11 or iPhone 11 Pro, as is the case with some competitors (Samsung, Huawei, OnePlus).

Storage formats of iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 pro.

iPhone 11 comes in a 64 GB, 128 GB or 256 GB version. As for the famous iPhone 11 Pro, it comes with 64 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB of storage. It must be said that the latter is still more successful for photos, and more storage space is welcome.
