I highly recommend this Grammar, it is deliberately geared towards keeping you focused on the many benefits of learning Greek because of its great value as a tool in the proper exegesis of the Word of God. BBG has become the most used English-Greek textbook around the world. It is at times quite different from the English equivalent but the contrast actually helps one understand it more. I have not looked at any other books, but I would basids this for nounce that is not a seminary student and has no prior exposure to Greek. I believe it is actually easier to memorize the p I learned Biblical Greek in college and loved it! It is well organized and has a very encouraging practical example of the new material being proposed for each chapter. Mounce’s book would be grek better if he didn’t attempt to be so cute and verbose.

Focusing only on the nominals and then the verbals cuts down on a lot of possible confusion. Jul 29, Jeff rated it liked it. Mounce’s division were also quite helpful for me. We are going through 1 John. This book takes a different approach. The method Mounce uses in teaching Greek maximizes on learning the principles of grammar in Koine Greek so that one doesn’t have to learn lots of paradigms.
If you want to dig deeper as you learn, you can read his notes on the bottom if his pages. Each chapter has an instructive mouhce insight” to start, comparisons between Greek and English, an overview, and a body that includes paradigms broken down into sections so as not biblica appear too lengthy. Though at times his explanations falter, for the most part he provides the right balance of content and explanation.
