Thoughtfully arranged and refreshingly readable, this is a book that belongs on the shelf of every Christian. I have many systematic theology volumes in my library, nearly all of which go in to far greater detail.
It is a reliable guide to the doctrines of the Christian faith, presented in an easily accessible, precise and useful format. You do not have to be a seminary student to read this book. If you enjoyed “Knowing God” you are probably going to enjoy this book. Brief but not dense. This book is also a great tool to concie a quick look-up of various beliefs and where they come from, especially when you have a differences in view concerning an aspect of theology.

True condise its title this is a very concise book on theology, but full of scriptural references for further study.

jj It is succinct, chock-full of Scriptural references, and still thorough. By the very nature of the book, it reads more like an encyclopedia that a proper book, and is therefore not a particularly exciting read, even though the topics should be. Packer delivers an essential piece of Christian literature that delves into what makes faith in God so important and wondrous. This is a pocket sized systematic theology.

Although easy to understand, it concie important–and I highly suggest–that readers take their time when going through this book. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. So, I suppose it is aptly named. The name of the book says it all. This is the orthodox-conservative-reformed-evangelical view on this subject.

While it is not an in-depth enough book to use as a primary textbook in Theology classes, some excerpts from it would make for some helpful supplemental reading for students. His process is similar to the Westminster Confession which he often quotesusing Scripture references to support each conclusion; fortunately, Packer takes more time explaining and discussing each theological concept, making it easier to understand.
Loaded with Scripture references and covering each major doctrine with brevity and clarity, it serves as both a good intro to each doctrine as well as a great little quick reference for where to do further study on each area from the Scriptures.
