The burn your finger kind of hot. Hi John, What lm2940cct-5 the input voltage to the regulator — can you measure it? That would work alright. Bob Edit oops Bruce has just giving this info. I switched back to the and everything worked again!!!
works fine, LMCT5 not!
Photos – easier uploading and sharing. I found datashet data sheet on the LM, and it looks like you need at least 22uF on the output, and drop-out will be around 0.
Thanks, John In basicstamps yahoogroups. Check datasheet for correct smoothing and decoupling capacitance values. Results 1 to 5 of 5.
I have a 22uf cap between the output and ground as specified in the datasheet for stability. Otherwise the output impedance is too high and it oscillates.
I can’t find a schematic of it. Also, remember the more voltage you have to drop and the more current you want to pull, the datasehet the device will run. Furthermore, hidden in the ap note the ones that I have seen is an lm2940xt-5 to have a minimum current load. Hi All, I have a PIC application 16f88 and 2 leds that is working fine with a from National and a 6 volts 1 amper battery.

Hello, All I have is a cap between the output and ground at 22uf. The only things being powered in the circuit is the stamp and the LCD.
I cannot find out why is not working. I like to put a led on the output for the minimum load, and to show, solidly, that power IS really on. Here’s a snip from p. It is essential that the output capacitor meet these requirements, or oscillations can result.
LM2940ct 5.0 gets HOT quick.
Hi danielhr77, Make sure you have enough capacitance fitted both before and after the regulator. I thought that the LMCT5 was better than thebut is not.
Any ideas why is not working with the LMCT5?
My input is 9V, I’m using the power supply that came with the Dwtasheet demo board. I believe the data sheets show a 0. Many of the regulators require capacitance on the input and output to minimize daatsheet. If you aren’t running very much current, and your Vin isn’t too l2m940ct-5, a small clip-on heat sink can significantly reduce the regulator’s temperature.
Hi Daniel, Just checked the datasheet http: Your use of Yahoo! Is ths just because of the load placed on it due to the lcd? Groups daatsheet subject to http: Another data sheet says 0. The ESR of the output capacitor will cause loop instability if it is too high or too low. The time now is Does it have a backlight? What are the caps on the BS2P40 demo board? I measure the input and the output and seemed ok.
The acceptable range of ESR plotted versus load current is shown in the graph below. Let us know if this solves the problem? I tried with another LMCT5 and got the same result. I haven’t experienced it personally, but you could have an issue there that might result in overheating. Keep in mind the adapter you have may be putting out more than 9 volts, or may not have a very clean output, both of which will make the regulator get hot. It’s interesting that mine gets this hot when I have seen schematics using the same setup, with a 10uf cap even.
